September Favorites

For the first ever installment of monthly favorites, I made sure that this post will be extra special because these items will be my favorites long after September has passed.

The unpredictable and erratic weather makes my mane’s roots more greasy than usual. I’ve been scouring stores for months looking for a good dry shampoo and the Nivea dry shampoo caught my eye at the supermarket. Yes, you read that right, I grabbed this from the supermarket along with groceries. Sprayed on the roots of my hair, I just rub it to spread the mist and this does lessen the grease of my hair. The ultimate test was when I had a Brazilian Keratin hair treatment, where I wasn’t supposed to wash my hair for three days. This really helped control the grease, but don’t expect just washed hair and this will be a good addition to your hair routine.

A few months back my car was broken into and some of my makeup was stolen. The thieves were probably disappointed, but to ease my pain, I stocked on the things I lost which included face and eye brushes, foundations, primers, blushes, and lippies. After that incident, I made sure to try the Real Techniques Expert Face brush and I’ve been enjoying it for spreading cake foundations like Naturactor concealer foundation and Collection cake foundation. It gives a nice, even finish on heavy foundations.

While we’re on the topic of foundations, I was finally able to get hold of the Kevyn Aucoin’s The Sensual Skin Enhancer. Heavy-coverage concealers is what I’ve been searching for, just forever reading reviews on the best ones in the market. And yes, if you want to conceal, look no further. I also use this on my undereyes, focusing more on the inner eye because this can be drying, which we don’t want for our delicate eye skin. To prep the skin, I make sure to use an eye cream just to give a boost of moisture on the undereyes.

To keep eyeshadows in place, as well as to replace my Elf eye primer, I grabbed Painterly Paint Pot from Mac and I’m glad I made the right choice. This is a dream to apply, no need to tug my eyelids, as it’s creamy. It evens my eyelids and keeps eyeshadow wear longer. This pot will also last a long time compared to cheaper drugstore eye primers.

When it comes to curling eyelashes, I’m definitely still a noob to this, but I have the Revlon and Shu Uemura which both pinched my eyes, causing more fear and trauma to curlers. But after trying the Shiseido eyelash curler, I know that this is the perfect one for my eye shape. No matter how clumsy I am with it, it has never pinched my eyelids.

Neutral eyes is definitely my go-to daily makeup especially as I have to go to work and meet clients. Subtle smokey eyes are the most adventurous I can do for daytime. For this, I rely on the Chanel Les 4 Ombres in Raffinement which has three shades with sheen and one dark brown matte shade which I use on the crease. I’ve been using it daily for weeks and aside from the powders on the side, it looks like it’s going to take a while before I finish this.

For women with pigmented lips, it can be a bit difficult to show the true shade of any lippie. I always go for opaque and matte lipsticks, but to prep my lips, I prefer a nude and creamy lipstick and these days, YSL Rouge Pur Couture in shade 2 is always in my makeup kit. It prevents chapped lips acting as a lip balm and neutralizes my pigmented lips.

Estee Lauder’s Forbidden Kiss has been my favorite since the day it was gifted to me. This has never left my makeup kit and it’s safe to say that this has been my favorite lipstick for 2013 until now. I’m on the last legs and I’m thinking whether I should repurchase or use up my other red lipsticks, because I’m sure that as long as I have this, I won’t have to reach for another red shade. This can be used as a stain patted on the lips or swiped for full-on vamp red. This is my hg red lipstick for my medium tan skin.

When I want something different on my lips, I discovered that I like to line my entire lips with the Collection lip liner in Clover Pink on top of YSL Rouge Pur Couture 2. Or then top it off with Estee Lauder’s Forbidden Kiss.

To change things up a bit, I included this neon green eye-catching gem necklace I picked up for a bargain at Landmark Department Store’s accessories section. I love this on a dark green top.
